Matlab 2019a unable to connect for updates

All the component connected to Arduino that send the data to Matlab. I want to plot graph of the distance vs time while elevator works or not. But there is a distance sensor under the elevator. I have a servo motor that connected to Arduino and when I press floor button on gui this part works perfectly. I do understand that in the callback I am defining a variable and then immediately closing the figure, I have tried using the set() and get() functions but haven't been successful. I have tried a whole bunch of different things but am losing inspiration, I don't think I fully understand the way the the nested function definition works. Once the user presses the button indicating the 'type' a number is assigned/saved into the parent script and the window is closed.Д®verything is working except saving the 'type' (integer as identifier) such that the parent script can read this. The idea is this: if the data cannot be assigned a 'type' by the script a window opens asking for user input. For this data I have made a GUI that plots the relevant data and allows the user to manually specify what data 'type' it is by means of 5 buttons. The matlab script is running and the data variable is collecting the point cloud spherical coordinates from the Lidar but the 3D plot is not working. I'm trying to make a plot of the obtained 3D point cloud from a Garmin LiDAR lite V3.
